Interview with Adeline

Getting to know Adeline!

It's like peeling back layers of creativity, drive, and genuine curiosity. Born in Louisville, KY, she's majoring in Communications and DAT, which fits perfectly with her passion for storytelling and connection. She somehow balances four jobs, serving as a Hall host and tour guide at Bellarmine University, scooping ice cream at Graeters, teaching preschoolers, and working as freelance videographer. A vegetarian with a deep love for pasta and a soft spot for Guinness, she finds joy in the little things, whether it's hiking, watercolor painting, writing, or exploring new music. Adeline's love for travel has also taken her to some incredible places, with the Netherlands and Northern Ireland holding a special place in her heart.

It was a pleasure to get to know Adeline and I hope everyone knows her a little better now!

Something Keaton Loves Doing

Caught in the moment doing what I love. As a loadmaster in the Air Force, there’s nothing like the rush of flight after a long day of airdrops and hard work than sitting on the ramp, legs hanging off the edge, taking in the views.

Keaton's Project One Idea

My project one idea is a dystopian future idea revolving around the concept that "those who don't know their past are doomed to repeat it." I imagined a world where history has been completely erased, no books, no records, just blank walls and controlled narratives. People go about their lives unaware that they're walking in the footsteps of forgotten mistakes. The same injustices and patterns keep repeating because no one remembers or learned that they've happened before. Through my visuals, I wanted to show how dangerous it is when the past is silenced, and how easy it is for society to fall into the same traps over and over again.

Prajita's Idea for Project One

For project one, I chose to focus on the future of wealthy inequity. The theme is going to Luxury vs Slums, imagine a world where the gap between rich and poor has become even more extreme than it is today. In this future, wealthy elites live in futuristic cities filled with glass towers, flying cars and advanced technology, while just outside the walls, sprawling slums collapse under the weight if poverty, overcrowding, and pollution.

Liam's Idea for Project One

For my idea, I would like to talk about facism and how society seems to be regressing from the progress we've made.

Andrea Project One Idea

For my project one, my idea revolves around how technology/robots are taking over the world. In supermarkets there's basically no workers anymore, you do it yourself in a machine, there's Ubers that drive themselves with no one even in the car. It's scary but I feel like we are heading into a world full of this.

My project would show exactly that, our future.

Adeline's Project 1 Idea

Adeline's Project 1 Idea

Topics I am Interested In:

  • Social Justice

  • Identity/Inclusivity

  • Environment

My Ideas:

Over the last several years I believe that our society has seen an intense shift in progress. The way I see it, we are going backwards instead of forwards. I want my project to focus on what the future will look like if we continue down this path. I would create pieces that focus on our effect on the environment through climate change. The pushback on inclusion that we have been seeing, specifically in education. How Social Media is impacting everyone and everything, and our reliance on technology. I want to combine all the things that I see happening in the world now, politically, socially, and environmentally in my project.

Sophia's Project One

For project one, I am planning to research and put together a piece that ties together the use of social media and how it is a tool that raises awareness of current/historical societal events. This project will also highlight how social media normalizes world issues such as war and violence as a part of our every day lives, and how this will effect our future.

Other topics that intrigue me for this project includes consumerism, global warming,  and capitalism.

Eastman Project One

 Project Ideas:

1.) The project idea focused on human infrastructure and land ownership, considering what to do when there isn’t land available for the population. Topics include architecture, high-density housing, and constructed spaces.

  • Architecture / Constructed-Spaces
  • Population Density
  • High-Density Housing
  • Human Condition

2.) Project idea focused on the meat industry, exploring how meat has become a mixture of animal parts. It emphasizes the use of the whole animal and discusses how the digital era fosters conspiracy theories related to meat. The trade of human flesh and body parts in relation to the non-human experience.
  • Western Meat Industry
  • Body Trade
  • Commodification

Riley's Idea for Project one

My project will tie together science and theology by displaying the current issues our world is experiencing, that line up with the prophecy of the book of Revelation. This will be obtaining to the seven seals broken leading to the tribulations period. Some aspects I would like to include is the moon currently starting to rust and turn red, which is a prophecy in the book of revelation of the blood moon. Also, the uprising of wars and rumors of wars, global tension and political disagreement was a prophecy by Jesus in Matthew 24. I will essentially go through the series of events that are currently happening (earthquakes, famine, persecution) that also line up with the prophecies given to us in in the book of Matthew and Revelation, that point to God's final judgment on the Earth.

Layah's Project 1 Ideas

For Project 1, I am envisioning a global epicenter, like the United Nations, being over taken by various nationalist groups. Although globalization has increased over the past decade, over-tourism, appropriation, and xenophobia are popular issues plaguing even the most diverse societies. Visually, I am imagining a  political party juxtaposed with a tourist group harming a protected site or appropriating that nation's attire.

A secondary idea is creating a technology farm where individuals are focusing more on over-consumerism and the consumption of resources and less on the vitality of natural wildlife, agriculture, and the environment. For visuals, I see the sun being covered by the haze of fossil fuels burning (most likely to create more products that will end up in a landfill), while the illumination in the image is from the glow of technology.

My last idea is about creating an image that commentates on the social divide between cultural classes. As a college student the most prominent images of this have been the items students own, the experiences students mention, and the lived social experiences. My college experience hasn't always been glamorous because of my social identity and background. Most students are having to work multiple jobs and juggle numerous activities to hopefully move up in society.

Layla's Idea For Project One

My idea is to do a dystopian piece that reflects society's obsession consumerism and disregard to environmental issues. I'm thinking of a reporter standing outside reporting on newest purchase trends like Labubus and the latest celebrity drama, while behind him is a large meteoroid about to destroy the entire planet.

Other project ideas/themes:

- AI taking over (people zombified/robotic-like - not being able to think for themselves - connected to wires, etc)

- Species evolution (tied to evironmental issues)

Bella's Idea For Project 1

Capturing Blindness to Global Crisis

The image would show people either happily walking around in a city that is clearly overly urbanized, with visable environmental issues (maybe a cow wandering the street or rising flood water), or a tank tearing up concrete in its path. The individuals are choosing to live obliviously. Or maybe to better visualize this, the individuals are waring futuristic glasses or some type of VR set to instead see a better version of the world they are actually in: clean streets, vibrant city, no conflict. Their reality is filtered, choosing to escape from reality then confront it.

Amy's Idea for Project One

Architecture's Reflection of Society:

In the past, architecture and landscape architecture has said a lot about how a society works and what it values. I would take a look at what it is 'saying' now and how it is wanting/needing to look in the future. I would research what would happen if humans did not follow the trend of time for architecture and what effects that would have on the environment and its inhabitants. For the image composites I would use photos I have taken of two major cities (London and New York) along with images from the web.

Jansen's Idea for Project 1

Ideas:

1. Health- For this idea, I would like to focus on how overprocessed and unhealthy many human diets are today. I don't have a distinct vision yet, but I would like this idea to have a utopian but scary feel. One that causes the viewer to reflect on their eating habits and what they are putting into their bodies. I plan to include the overprocessed and unhealthy foods we all know and love, but also ones that we think are healthy, but actually aren't, such as vitamins and supplements. I also plan to draw attention to how our "natural" and "healthy" foods, like meat and fruits, are being pumped full of chemicals and hormones that are bad for us. Visually, I have been thinking of playing into the packaging, the production process, or showing "visual" effects of the food on humans.

2. Resources- For this idea, I would focus on how humans are not resourceful anymore. We have everything available to us at the click of a button from Amazon, we can look anything and everything up online, and the majority of people don't even shop for their own groceries anymore. Our society has lost its ability to be resourceful, to forage, to hunt and gather. In addition to this, I would also point out how humans are very wasteful. Visually, I would want this to have a dystopian vibe that marries together our current age of technology and apps, with hunting and gathering. Some images that come to mind are growing digital images, humans ordering things online that are right in front of them, and possibly piles of waste.

Mckenzie's Ideas for Project 1

Concepts:

1. Environmental Waste

2. Violence

3. Animal Rights

Conceptial Visions:

Welcome to Plastic Island: It will be a dystopian island with a bunch of plastic floating in the water, and oil spills as well. There will be sea creatures and birds around the island like there is nothing happening around them oblivious to the pollution around them. Some of the plastic will somehow interact with the animals in a harmful way that can't be reversed (e.g. a soda ring holders wrapped around the neck of a sea creature/bird). This vision is to help be aware of the issue of pollution caused by oil spills and plastic waste. It is harmful to animals due to being exposed to the oil in the water and the land animals unawarely eating plastic that will kill their bodies. This will help incorporate some action to help maintain this issue for both our communities and the environment.

A Fight to the Death:

This will be set at a random dystopian city with a big crowd of people spectating a violent scene unfolding in front of them. A bunch of people robbing stores, people with guns shooting at each other, people punching and kicking mercilessly, arguing, and all sorts of violence going on. There is no policemen in this scene, whicch represents how our police force has been diminishing slowly or theres no control on how to stop the violence going on. There are fires set in the background representing the result of this corrupted and greedy world. The goal for visioning this is to make violence more known to other people so that we can better decrease the amount of violence going on everyday in our world. We are selfish, and greedy people that can cause other people to do violence because of our negative language we gossip. The message is to help not promote violence and unintentionally encourage violence to others. Even though violence can't be totally resolved, it can be decreased, and monitored more often.

What's Behind the Curtains:

We are looking at a theatre room and we are the audience looking at a stage. We, as the audience, only see the good side of the show and the happy faces of the performers with their pets, but behind the curtains, we see abusive behavior toward the animals in all sorts of ways. Circus animals being whipped or chained, domestic pets in harmful predicaments, over poaching, caged, and neglected. This is to show the dark side that could be going on behind closed doors. For example, we commonly see animals at a particular zoo, and we don't suspect anything wrong with it (always expecting the animals being treated with love and care by the zoo keepers),but behind the scenes, after the crowd has left, we don't seee the cruelty that the animals might be going through alone, and help sometimes doesn't arrrive until its too late to save them.

Emily's Ideas for Project 1

 Topics:

- Consumerism

- Poverty

- Landfills

- Food Excess (Waste)

- Politics (in general)

 Concepts:

- Mountain of Garbage: There's a pile of garbage and the American flag is at the top of the mountain while other countries flags are at the bottom, in the garbage. This signifies how as a country we have all this excess waste due to our consumeristic tendencies. The United States are the ones producing the garbage, but we ship the garbage out to third world countries to dispose of our garbage, espcially technology.

- The Race to Consumerism: A race track from an aerial pov. World flags are acting as race cars with the US in the lead and Britain and other countries behind. There's a clock in the corner with the date the US became a country, 1776. The grass around the race track is brown and has garbage throughout it. This conveys the way the race to consumerism is destroying our planet.

- What's Behind: The main focus is the White House. In front of the White House, there is garbage and signs of poverty. However, behind are signs of wealth. Congress sits on top of the wealth behind the White House. This work portrays how our government now functions. The people in the office are making a lot of money while the people they are supposed to be acting as public servants for are falling farther and farther behind.

- A Future With Humans vs Without Humans: The world with humans has buildings, garbage, grey skies, and overall a dark, cool tone. The world without humans has animals walking through, overgrowing grass, and it is bright, colorful, warm toned.

Riley's interview with Bella

Bella is a Business administration DAT major, and marketing and communications. She likes the movie Ponyo just like me. We both agreed that Ponyo is one of our go-to feel good comfort movies.  She has a dog, and two siblings. She's from Louisville, but was born in California. She doesn't play any sports, we have that in common, although she used to play field hockey. She spends her free time watching movies, spending time with her friends, and hiking. She's not sure of her dream job, but she loves Halloween and the movie Interstellar. She wants to travel to Italy, and does not have any tattoos. And lastly has a great personality, and considers herself a semi-introvert!

Something Riley Loves

I love making sourdough. My sourdough started is named Peepee Halpert. Making loafs makes me feel like I'm in little house on the prairie, I make them as gifts, or eat them myself, it takes a lot of attention, and a lot of time.

Something Amy Loves

I love taking pictures, especially abstract ones. I also love learning about other people and their interests, so this is a picture that combines a bit of both. This is from an art installation that captured people's silhouettes as they stood in front of it.

Amy's Interview with McKenzie

 McKenzie (she/her):

McKenzie is a Junior majoring in Digital Art, aspiring to be a book illustrator. She is a self-taught artist that loves drawing and has recently  started creating original characters (her favorite is Ginger). Her favorite colors are purple, pink, and baby blue. McKenzie has a pet dog and a pet guinea pig and she really loves any animal EXCEPT for monkeys (because they look too similarly to humans). McKenzie is not much of a sweets person, but she would tear up some pasta, lemonade, and smoothies. Her favorite holiday is Easter because of how colorful it is and its relation to Jesus. Lastly, her favorite seasons are Fall and Spring (great choices).

Something Layah Loves

One thing that I am truly passionate about is farming because of the intense, yet fulfilling aspects of the growth process. It is my dream to build a homestead after I have traveled the world and have decided to settle down.

Something Liam Loves

Something I love is doing face masks. I love doing skincare and facemasks help me to relax when I do them as well, so it combines two things I enjoy doing. My skin after doing a face mask? Dewy. My serotonin levels? Up.

Layah's Interview with Ella

Interview with Ella Brock (she/her).

Ella’s full name is Gabrielle because her mom “simply liked it”. Her dad has wondered why her name isn’t Gabriella since she uses Ella as her preferred name. He has also joked that her middle name, Elise, was inspired by a car — although it's spelled completely differently. She has an older and a younger sister, and three pet rats with distinct names and personality quirks.

One thing I admire about Ella is her consideration about visiting foreign destinations. When travelling to a new area, she may hesitate to avoid intruding on another region’s cultural and societal practices. If she were to travel, she would like to visit the Louvre when it is completely empty.

What Ella and I have in common is body art in the form of tattoos. She has seven, with her favorite being a large jester on her thigh. When I asked her why this was her favorite, Ella shared, “I'm a jester...You keep me around to keep you laughing, you can't kill me.” As we prepare for Halloween, Ella shared a fun story of her 2024 experience. Since last year was an election year and early voting was an option, she dressed as the Swedish Chef from the Muppets and decided to go to the polls. Initially she was afraid she wouldn’t be allowed in since she was in full costume including a large fake nose and mustache, however, the poll staff got a kick out of her costume and allowed her to cast her vote like normal.

Liam's interview w/ Andrea

Andrea is a senior and goes by she/her pronouns. She is from Portugal and she is majoring in DAT, broadcasting, and minoring in art and communications. She plans on getting her masters in digital media.

Some things we have in common are that we love the color green, particularly forest green, and we both have similar shoes, Birkenstocks. Her dream job is to go into sports/graphic media/PR. Her favorite food is lasagna. She has a younger brother, a cat and her mom and dad. Both of our favorite holidays are Christmas. Her favorite season is autumn. The favorite place that she has gone on vacation to was an island in Portugal, Madeidra. Her guilty pleasures are potato chips and Coke (keep diet away from her).

She loves all music types. Her favorite movie is the greatest showman. Her zodiac sign is Capricorn and I’m a Cancer which means we are very compatible! Her favorite TV show is Scorpion. If she could control an element it would be water so she’s a waterbender (just like me)! She plays basketball for Bellarmine too. She also doesn't have a favorite animal because she loves them all <3

Emily’s Interview with Prajita

Emily Stefanisin

she/her

Emily is a junior she has a major in design arts and technology and communications. She's from Chicago IL and she has an older brother. Her and I both love seafood that's one thing that we both connected on we love a good seafood boil. Emily hates the sound of chewing and people interrupting her which is one of her biggest pet peeves. Something that Emily really wants to do during this year, or the following years is to travel more outside of the country she's traveled to a country, but she wants to do more. She loves to watch movies she's not a big reader. Honestly, Emily and I have so much in common and when we were both getting to know each other I think we would get along really well and I'm so excited to get to know more about her this semester

Something Prajita loves

Something I love to do is to play in the snow. Anytime it snows it smells so good and it’s so much fun to go sledding and play it in. I love to throw snowballs at my friends as well.

When it snowed for a week in January my friends and I were outside of UDH everyday playing in the snow.

Bella's interview with Riley

Riley

Riley is entering her senior year, majoring in Design, Art & Technology, and Digital Art. She was born in Maryland and raised in Elizabethtown. In high school, she used to play soccer, but now she spends her free time sewing, making sourdough, and going to church.

Riley’s faith is extremely important to her. She is non-denominational and has built close relationships within her church community. Her favorite holidays are Christmas and Easter, as both are centered around Jesus!

Some things we have in common include the fact that we both have dogs, we both love the movie Ponyo, and we're both semi-introverts, semi-extroverts.

A few fun facts about Riley: her dream job is to be an elementary school art teacher, she’s been married for six months, she has a tattoo she regrets, she loves SweetTART Ropes, and her favorite classes are Arts Entrepreneurship & Technology and Photography. Also, her birthday was yesterday!

Something Bella Loves

Something I love is going on runs and hikes! This summer, I went to Glacier National Park, which was super pretty and something I’ve always wanted to cross off my bucket list.

Layla’s Interview with Ari

Ari Eastman (They/Them)

Ari is a junior and a DAT and digital art major. Ari’s dad is a tattoo artist and their mom is a ghost writer. In Ari’s free time, they enjoy coding, Taco Bell, grape jolly ranchers, and creatively expressing themselves through their art. Ari and I are both Louisville natives. We both have glasses, we are both DAT majors, we both love the color pink, and we both classify ourselves as introverts. Ari also has a few dogs and cats, and their biggest pet peeve is loud chewing.

Ellas Ideas for Project one

Not sure if this is specific enough, but just brainstorming some stuff here.

  1.  Patterns of history- like how countries only last about 250 years or how a mass war breaks out every 40 or so years.
  2. How humans are our own self-destruction, or how we kinda need to be extinct for the betterment of the world.
  3. How humans struggle with long-term issues and selfishness
  4. We are just animals...everything else is fake
  5. Humans have not changed, and we think we are evolving, but we have the same instincts and habits as our ancestors
  6. The way the earth and lives are destroyed in the name of financial gain (I think about this a lot with how much people need to pay for insurance and housing when weather destroys their homes when its a lot due to big companies short cuts)
  7. Art and History suppression and revision

Something Layla Loves

I love the sea. I could be watching it from a distance, swimming in it, being on a boat - it doesn't matter. I love the water. This photo was taken last month when I was visiting Croatia!

Something Mckenzie Loves

Enjoy hanging out with my dog, Quinnie

Mckenzie's Interview with Amy

 Amy Caldwell

This is Amy, a senior at Bellarmine University. She prefers to be called she/her. She was originally from a smaller town in Kentucky, but moved to Louisville as she grew up. Amy is the youngest out of her 2 older brothers.

Her favorite drink is drinking boba tea and for dessert, mochi ice cream. She likes to drink coffee whereas I don't. She has a rabbit and a dog (if I remember correctly), as her pets. As a hobby to pass some time, she likes to make anything that is with art, which is something she wants to do for her future career. If there was anywhere in the world that she could go, it would be Australia and Japan. She has been to England before, but wants to go back there again sometime in the future. Her favorite movie(s) are Momma Mia, and Surfs Up. favorite season is fall, and green is her favorite color. Halloween is her favorite holiday. Amy likes to read or watch anything fictional over non-fictional.

Amy's current job right now is being a party host and helping out with kid's parties specifically.

Hope all enjoyed hearing a little bit about Amy

Something that Adeline Loves

I love videography and photography. One of my great passions in life is celebrating the world through my art and sharing it with others.

Getting to Know Keaton

Getting to Know Keaton

Keaton was born in Louisville, KY, but grew up in Shepardsville. Growing up with two sisters and his mom, Keaton finds enjoyment in nostalgic throwback music from the 90s and 2000s. However, his music taste is vast. He also loves Classic Rock and Country, listening to artists as different as Alex Warren and George Strait. Keaton also has a love for films from many different time periods. He enjoys movies such as Star Wars: A New Hope, The Lord of the Rings, and Interstellar.

Not only does Keaton have an interest in lots of media from over the decades, but he is also passionate about traveling. Through his role in the military, Keaton has had the opportunity to travel all over the world. His favorite places include Germany, Puerto Rico, and Alaska. He is also a huge foodie and loves to try new foods every place he goes!

Between working at UPS, his dedication to the service, as well as his love of travel, Keaton is also a student at Bellarmine University. He is a double major, studying Design, Arts, and Technologies, as well as Communications. Keaton has an affection for video editing. Outside of work and school, Keaton also enjoys tennis, flying, and spending time with his fiancée, whom he recently proposed to.

Hopefully, now we all know more about who Keaton is, and he is not just a familiar face in the back of the room, but a friend.

Something Andrea Loves

This is a picture of what I love the most. Basketball not only has allowed me to get my degrees for "free" but it allows me to discover the world.

Who is Liam?

Liam is a senior from Bardstown, KY. He is a DAT and English major with a minor in Film Studies, he desires to be a film director.

Liam is obsessed with Qdoba bowls at the moment and can't wait for Wicked 2 to come out, and so can't I. He is surrounded by his mom, his two older siblings and a cute cat, who make Christmas his favorite holiday.

Our guilty pleasure is potato chips, but Liam has a soft for the Salt & Vinegar ones. Something about us both is our love for forest green and comfy Birkenstocks.

His favorite trip was to San Diego, and his pirate name would be Goldy Locks, and if he had control over an element would be Water, which is funny because he doesn't like sharks.

Liam's favorite season is spring, and his favorite TV show is SpongeBob, to which I told him he looked like someone who loves it, whatever that might mean.

Although he is not connected to sports currently, Liam used to do Croos Country, Track and Field and Swim.

He is a Cancer, and we are so compatible!

Ari's Interview With Layla

 Layla Osborn (She/Her)

Layla Osborn is a senior at Bellarmine University, where she is pursuing a double major in Digital Arts and Technology (DAT) and Communication. This summer, she participated in an internship focused on combating human trafficking. She traveled to Bosnia and Croatia, where she enjoyed quality time with her family and took part in karaoke. Her parents run a printing business in Louisville that specializes in providing materials for forensic cases.

Osborn values leadership roles and creativity, and places a strong emphasis on marketing and design. Her favorite holiday is Thanksgiving, a time she cherishes for spending with her family. Additionally, she confesses to a guilty pleasure of listening to music that she finds embarrassing, and her preferred fast food is McDonald’s because of its classic appeal.

We found several notable similarities between us, including a shared appreciation for the color pink, the fact that we are both only children, a mutual enjoyment of Jolly Ranchers, and our common origin in Louisville.

Something Ari Loves

I love creating prints and artwork! I enjoy attending events to support and admire others' work.

Something Sophia Loves

I love shooting video! This is a photo of me working on a project at my internship this summer.

Sophia's Interview with Jansen

Jansen Story (she/her)

Jansen is a senior at Bellarmine University, double majoring in DAT and Communication. In addition to her major, she also has a minor in art. Alongside her studies, she is an athlete and is on Bellarmine's track team. Jansen is originally from Louisville and has two sisters. She enjoys painting, running, and shopping.

This summer, Jansen completed an internship with a freelance digital marketing business that worked with many different clients. Throughout her internship, she discovered that she would like to work for a marketing company in the future, as it would allow stability and consistency working for a single brand rather than multiple clients.

Jansen does not necessarily have "favorites" when it comes to movies or music, and instead has a variety of music/movies that she enjoys. She does have a favorite candy and holiday, though. She likes the airhead strips and sour candy. Her favorite holiday is Christmas.

During our interview, I found out that we have a lot of things in common. Both of us are in the same major, we both have two sisters, we grew up in Louisville, both of us had an internship this summer, and we love shopping!

Jansen's Interview with Sophia

I had the pleasure of getting to know Sophia better. Sophia's preferred pronouns are she/her.

When talking, we had many things in common! 3 similarities that we listed were that we both have 2 sisters, we are both from Louisville, and we are both double majors in DAT and Comm. She also has a minor in TV news and broadcasting.

Some other things we have in common is that we are both in our senior year, but Sophia will be continuing in the MBA program. We also both had internships this summer. Sophia's worked at the KFB on the video team. During the internship, she got to go to different farms, and she really enjoyed the experience.

Sophia's dream job is in video broadcasting, video editing, or sports broadcasting. Currently, she helps with ESPN sports broadcasting at Bellarmine, and her favorite sports to work with are basketball then soccer, and wrestling.

Some of Sophia's hobbies include cart driving with her mini pony, photography, videography, shopping, and thrifting. I also learned that her family is from Germany, she likes German and Indian food, her favorite candy is Jolly Ranchers, her favorite meal of the day is dinner, and her favorite holiday is Christmas.

After talking with Sophia, I learned a lot about her and that we have many things in common!

Something Jansen loves

This is a photo of me racing. Running is a very large part of my life that pushes me to work hard to become a better athlete and person.

Emily's Interview with Prajita

Prajita (she/her)

Prajita is a senior with a double major in DAT and Psychology. She has 2 younger siblings, one brother and one sister. Her parents have an interesting love story as they had an arranged marriage. Prajita's parents met for the first time at the airport, and within 24 hours, they were married. Her mother was only 21 when she got married, and then just a year later, was pregnant. Prajita and I have common tastes in food; we both love a seafood boil and dumplings. Prajita's favorite dumplings are from Trader Joe's. Prajita would love to have a dog someday, as she currently does not have any pets. Right now, she really wants a Dachshund.

She grew up and has always lived in Louisville. She doesn't know where should would want to move to, but knows for certain it will not be by the coast because she does not want to deal with hurricane season.

For Halloween, her friends and her are going as the founding fathers. This will be the first year she goes to Ball on the Belle. We have both never gone before.

She loves to travel and has been to Ireland, Canada, and Nepal. In December, she is going with Father John to India.

Ella's Interview with Layah Hodges

Interview with Layah Hodges (she/her).

Layah has one older sibling, a brother named Willie, who is five years older than her. She has 10 tattoos; her favorite is the first one she got: a memorial tattoo to her mother when she was 18. She’s never had a pet and dislikes chicken on the bone and cooked carrots. She doesn't normally dress up for Halloween; however, she went with her theater group one year as characters from Sesame Street, and she was Elmo in a red shirt with construction paper details. Her guilty pleasure is Karma by JoJo Siwa, and it was her top song on Spotify last year. She enjoys traveling and specifically wants to go back to Tokyo, where she went this summer, and wants to possibly stay for a year or more. She doesn't know if her name has a specific meaning, but guesses that, considering the time, "Layah" might've been based on 'Leah' from Star Wars and was just spelled differently to be unique regarding her last name. She says it “came from the last guy who owned my family” and specified it was unrelated to the hodge-podge glue. However, upon review, the glue is called Mod Podge, and a hodgepodge is a mixture or grouping of things, so we were both confused by that.

We have in common our communications majors, having older siblings, having multiple tattoos, and memorial ones specifically. We both dislike cooked carrots, and I also have issues with chicken ON the bone.

Something Emily Loves

I love zip-lining. This is a photo of me zip-lining in Tennessee a few years ago.

BLOG PROMPT ONE: Non-linear Narrative

My Boyfriend Came Back from the War (1996) by Olia Lialini

PLEASE ANSWER BY POSTING COMMENTS.

Step all the way through My Boyfriend Came Back from the War (MBCBFTW) by Russian net art pioneer Olia Lialini. What do you think the narrative is about?

MBCBFTW may look extremely primitive now, but imagine how people might have felt seeing it in 1996 in the very, very early years of the internet. How might the site have challenged expectations about web design and about linear narrative?

BLOG PROMPT TWO: Appropriation and Collaboration

In B Flat (2011) by Darren Solomon and Thru-You (2009) by Kutiman

PLEASE ANSWER BY POSTING COMMENTS.

From A Dictionary of Modern and Contemporary Art, "Appropriation in art is the use of pre-existing objects or images ... To appropriate means to adopt, borrow, recycle or sample aspects of (or the entire form of) human-made visual culture."

Collaboration is when two or more people intentionally work together to create a work of art.

Interact with In B Flat and watch at least one song from Thru-You (I recommend "Mother of All Funk Chords"). Briefly describe these art projects in terms of appropriation and/or collaboration.

BLOG PROMPT THREE:  Interactivity – Audience Participation

241543903 (2009) by David Horvitz and Glyphiti (2001) by Andy Deck

PLEASE ANSWER BY POSTING COMMENTS.

1. Both of these works rely on the participation of strangers. Take some time to draw in Glyphiti and/or follow artist David Horvitz's instructions.

2. Watch the results. Google "241543903" to look at images from around the world and watch one of the time-lapse videos of people interacting with Glyphiti

3. Discuss these experiences. How do you feel about participating in an online art project?

Glyphiti (2001)
Glyphiti has been described as "an artistic experiment in extending the reaches of public art." Among other issues, New York media artist Andy Deck is concerned with interactivity and participation, in opposition to passive consumption. The "About" page offers some insight into the artist's goals. It's also where you'll find links to video clips.

241543903 (2009)
In 2009, New York based conceptual artist David Horvitz posted daily 'instructions' to his tumblr account. Instructions as artwork have a history that can be traced back at least to Fluxxus artists of the 60's and 70's. Many conceptual artists involve the viewer in making art – moving creative encounters outside of the walls of institutions like museums and galleries, and embracing the role of chance in the ultimate outcome of the work.

 BLOG PROMPT FOUR: Kinetic Imagery

Indirect Flights (2015) by Joe Hamilton and various websites (2001-Present) by Rafael Rozendaal

PLEASE ANSWER BY POSTING COMMENTS.

Please share your thoughts regarding these works, which explore the web in a light-hearted, aesthetically driven way.

Indirect Flights by Joe Hamilton: http://indirect.flights/

Rafael Rozendaal: https://www.newrafael.com/websites/

Tasmanian artist Joe Hamilton created "a looping spiral of meticulously layered scenes built from video shots. ... Geographically disconnected locations merge to form a hybrid panorama. ... The piece directly references histories of landscape painting via expressive paint marks lifted from famous paintings. ... Indirect Flights is a response to the impact of digital technologies on the representation of landscape. ... [Hamilton's] work questions our established notions of the natural environment within a society that is becoming increasingly networked."

Dutch-Brazilian artist Rafael Rozendaal sells websites as art. Collectors purchase the domain and must agree to keep the work publicly accessible.

WiFi-SM: Feel the Spectacle of Pain (2003) by Christophe Bruno

PLEASE ANSWER BY POSTING COMMENTS.

What is this artist critiquing, and why do you think he attempts to make his product appear real?

WiFi-SM: Feel the Spectacle of Pain by Christophe Bruno:  http://www.unbehagen.com/wifism

French net artist Christophe Bruno examines "network phenomena and globalization." Wifi-SM was created in 2003, so the design may feel somewhat dated, but image you're running across this page on the internet at the time it was released.

As explained by the artist, "You have the impression that the disasters of the world do not touch you anymore? You feel vaguely sorry for other people’s misfortunes but you don’t feel the inner urge which used to make you help your neighbor? WiFi-SM is the solution!"
